The fox stopped at the roots of a particularly large tree. Soren stood in front of it, catching his breath.
"This. This is the tree," Soren panted, realizing where they were.
It nodded. Moving with weightless steps, it bounded behind the tree.
"Wait, don't go!" A spike of panic and despair rose in him watching it disappear. So intense it took him off guard.
"This one would never leave Little Soren," a light voice echoed across the close ring of trees. Friend, in his pure white robes, stepped out from the other side of the tree.
In person, under the moonlight, he was a thousand times more preternaturally beautiful. And awe-inspiring. For half a second, Soren tensed, body preparing to run.
A boy lost in the woods meets a strange little Friend. He accompanies Soren through his hard life. Comforting, patient, unchanging. A light in the deep, deep dark.
This story is a supernatural horror/romance.
